The seventeenth Building Bridges Seminar, chaired by Professor Daniel A. Madigan, S.J., met June 18 through 22, 2018, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, to consider "A World of Inequalities: Christian and Muslim Perspectives." Sponsored by Georgetown University, the University of Sarajevo’s Faculties of Islamic Theology and Catholic Theology, the Faculty of Orthodox Theology “St. Vasilije Ostroski” of the University of Eastern Sarajevo, and the Gazi Husrev-bey Library (where most sessions took place), this circle of scholars from a dozen countries and six continents engaged in dialogical reading of sacred texts as they considered six different aspects of the reality of global inequality: gender; race; ethnicity and nationality; religious belief; caste and social class; and slavery and economic exploitation.
The public was invited to hear overview papers by Ovamir Anjum (University of Toledo) and David Hollenbach, S.J., (Georgetown University), followed by a Q&A moderated by Daniel Madigan, S.J., (Georgetown University), at the opening session at Gazi Husrev-bey Library on Monday, June 18; and again, to enjoy the closing session at the Faculty of Catholic Theology on Friday, June 22, which included a panel chaired by Daniel Madigan, S.J., (Georgetown University) and comprising Azza Karam (United Nations), Jonathan Chaplin (Cambridge University), and C. Rosalee Velloso Ewell (Redcliffe College). Kenan Musić (Mufti of Sarajevo) summarized this seminar’s key outcomes.
