Bekir Karliga is a scholar of Islamic philosophy, comparative East-West philosophy, the history of civilizations, and intercultural dialogue. He has taught at Marmara University Faculty of Theology and Bahçeşehir University Civilization Studies Center. He retired in 2008 and became the chairman of the National Coordination Committee of the Alliance of Civilizations. A prolific author, he wrote the television series documentary East to West, which focuses on the scientific and artistic discoveries that the West received from the East. Karliga received his doctorate in philosophy from Istanbul University.
