Sir Malcolm Evans is a professor of public international law in the University of Bristol School of Law. His research interests include international human rights protection, with particular focus on religious freedom and the prevention of torture. He is currently co-general editor of the International and Comparative Law Quarterly and co-editor in chief of the Oxford Journal of Law and Religion. A member and chair of the UN Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture, he is also an independent member of the UK Foreign Secretary’s Human Rights Advisory Group. From 2002 until 2013 he was a member of the Advisory Council on the Freedom of Religion or Belief of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2004 for services to the prevention of torture and the promotion of religious liberty.
